Airwave deploys in-building solution for Scottish Ambulance Service
SAS gave the go ahead to install the Airwave Special Coverage Lite solution at their Edinburgh City and Hamilton Ambulance Stations in early November and within four weeks it was fully operational.
Airwave, the leading mission critical voice and data communications provider, recently collaborated with Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) to deploy an in-building coverage solution within record time at two of their ambulance stations. This move would enable new operational practices to be put in place to improve the patient experience.
According to Gary Hardacre, Head of Risk & Resilience, SAS: “There were tight deadlines in place, but I was determined to keep to the timelines we had in place. We needed to change to a system where the immediate deployment of ambulance resources from station locations would be put in place, and that this would contribute towards delivering a patient-centred service.”

Special Coverage Lite is delivered through a directional antenna - similar to a TV antenna - on the outside of a building. This helps to ensure the Airwave radio signal is optimised and provide the in-building coverage required.
“The location of the site also added to the difficulty of the installation. Yet despite this, Airwave responded to the challenge very professionally and met a very tight deadline.”
