This spring, the implementation of projects within the police, fire and health services achieved several important milestones for the Norwegian TETRA communications network; Nødnett.

With the ICC in place, we have better preparedness, says Gustav Landro, who is chief of staff and section chief of the operational section of Hordaland police district.

There are many people involved in this large project and cooperation across all services is important to achieve the goal. For the emergency services, police, fire and health, which are the primary users of Nødnett, separate implementation projects have started for respectively Police Directorate (POD), the Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning (DSB) and the Directorate of Health (Hdir). These organizations work together with operating organizations, as well as the regional projects in each police district/service area, the project organization from  DNK and representatives from the vendor.

Police
In Spring 2013, four police operation centers used for the first part of Nødnett. The most recent districts where Sogn og Fjordane police district that went into operation with new equipment on June 5. Thus, all 11 of the 21 police districts in step 2 applied equipment for integrated radio and telephone controls. The next step is adopting Nødnett when it is ready for operational use. In phase 4, installing and rol l out of the equipment is on schedule.

At the opening of the new operations center in the Hordaland police district in May, Chief of Staff Gustav Landro said that the new Nødnett  equipment is police friendly and leads to better preparedness within the district.

Fire
For the fire department, the first equipment is in place at the 110 call center, Emergency Fire Inland in Elverum and covers from the first of June provinces such as Hedmark and Oppland, a region of about 370,000 inhabitants. We work in a regional project to prepare the premises and staff to use Nødnett.

There is lots of activity in Phase 2, with regards to the preparations for the reception of Nødnett.  Ongoing construction projects are in full swing and preparations are well underway.

Health
The introduction project in health care is extensive because of the number of control rooms. The regional project has started installing equipment in Phase 1, including the Inland Conservatory in Gurgaon. The pace is high and towards the summer 16 control rooms in Phase 1 will be installed and tested.

AMK-Inland recently moved into larger premises and adapted Nødnett, covering the counties of Hedmark and Oppland, which corresponds to an area larger than Denmark , handling about 300 calls per day. Arne Stokke, Department AMK-Inland, is looking forward to take Nødnett in use. -We look forward to Nødnett, especially considering the possibility to communicate across the boundaries of the district. Stokke also believes that there is also a positive opportunity for communication with the police and fire departments.

The 113-center at AMK Inland is scheduled to adopt Nødnett towards the end of 2013.

Also in May startup meetings took place for Phase 2 of the 113-AMK centers Vestfold Telemark Tønsberg and AMK Southern Norway in Arendal. Equipment for these centers has been ordered and will be installed by the end of 2013.
