New covert version of the slim and light Tetra radio model TH1n
Alongside discreet communication, the version has the ability to perform data queries, send reports and has many types of easy-to-use applications
At the Critical Communications World (CCW) fair in Singapore, Airbus Defence and Space launched a new covert version of its TH1n – the thinnest and lightest Tetra handset in the world. This new variation, equipped with the appropriate accessories, complements the very successful TH1n model and enlarges Airbus Defence and Space’s Tetra terminal portfolio especially for covert use. In addition to the 380-430 MHz frequency band, it is also available in 800 MHz radio frequency band, used in Asia and America.
“Our TH1n terminal is the first in this new category of pocket-sized Tetra radios and has generated lots of customer interest from the public safety sector and in industry all over the world since we launched it,” said Nicole Lecca, Head of Secure Land Communications at Airbus Defence and Space. “With the new version equipped with the appropriate accessories, we are responding to the strong demand of our customers who want to use it for their covert missions.”
The unique attributes of the TH1n were recognised last year at the International Tetra Awards, when it earned the title for “Best Tetra Enterprise Product”. It is small enough to be slipped into a pocket, attached to a belt, or carried in a handbag. This makes it ideal for a whole range of users, in addition to those in conventional roles. It addresses users who have the option of joining shared public safety networks, but who so far haven’t found a model to suit their needs better than a heavy-duty radio targeted at firefighters. It has particular appeal for those wearing light uniforms or business clothing – even a suit and tie – because it can be carried discreetly.
This new variation provides a complete covert outfit for special operations or other users who need to communicate discreetly. A small, ergonomic remote control unit (RCU) provides access to key functions of TH1n, without the need to pull out and touch the terminal itself. The RCU has access to the terminal functions like push to talk (PTT), talk group change and volume control. In addition, the solution is complemented by a wireless PTT key, which looks like a car key. And the covert outfit includes various audio solutions for discreet communication. Among other options, the user can select between induction lead or neck-loop-like audio accessories with a wireless earpiece. Alongside discreet communication, the ability to access and share data in the field is increasingly important, and the TH1n enables field operatives to perform data queries and send reports.
