Motorola CEO Greg Brown says, "NO SALE!"
With the numerous rumors of the pending sale of Motorola flying everywhere, Greg Brown, CEO of the Technology Mogul addressed those rumors at the annual Channel Partner Expo in Las Vegas last week.
Brown said "Motorola is Independent, has always been Independent, and will remain Independent!" The statement put to rest the speculation of a corporate takeover by another technology company like Raytheon , Honeywell, or General Dynamics. In a very personal and reflective speech, Brown shared his experiences over the last 13 years at Motorola, then laid out a set of behaviors that he has been taught by the influencers in his life including Federal Reserve Chairperson, Janet Yellen and his wife Anna.
Sale rumors were spurred by an article in Bloomberg magazine where possible buyers were named. Brown did leave the door open to taking Motorola private, by not addressing the subject, as was speculated in an article in Barron's magazine just two weeks ago.
According to TRNI (Technology Resource Network), Motorola Solutions has taken a beating over the last several years from the Gurus on Wall Street. The experts were judging Motorola solely as a cellular phone manufacturer for the last decade, completely ignoring its dominance of the Land Mobile Radio Industry. The board of directors has had to deal with corporate raider, Carl Ichan and his representatives for several years, and every issue was a battle. In the end, Motorola sold off its semiconductor division, now Free Scale, its cellular division, (a technology they invented), and now its Enterprise business (previously Symbol).
