Ooredoo’s Tetra network has grown into one of the largest commercially-available networks of its kind.

Ooredoo has announced the launch of an updated Terrestrial Trunked Radio (Tetra) service that gives subscribers the ability to track and monitor their assets and people through the automatic vehicle location service (AVLS).

Ooredoo’s Tetra network has grown into one of the largest commercially-available networks of its kind. The service has been in operation in Qatar since April 2005, and today there are over 290 customers and over 27,000 plus users.

The new upgrade aims to enhance the existing Tetra platform and evolve it towards a fully Machine-2-Machine (M2M) compliant service.

The AVLS service offers a dedicated map application for logistics and operational centres that provides them with monitoring, alarm and control functions with map functionality.

The AVLS is used to track the location of vehicles and Tetra users equipped with a GPS-enabled Tetra radio. The AVLS system is able to display the location of people and vehicles on a graphical map based on GPS information. The dispatcher can perform specific actions using this map, such as calling individuals or groups on the map by touching it.

In addition to enabling one-to-one, one-to-many, and many-to-many communications, the Tetra network also enables businesses to subscribe to a range of Tetra Applications systems, including Computer-Aided Dispatcher with Automatic Vehicle Location, Voice recording and Playback clients.
In addition to a broad range of Tetra-compatible applications, Ooredoo’s Tetra services includes a full portfolio of communications services, including group, individual and broadcast calls; an extensive range of compatible handsets, available from a range of vendors; and a fully-supported operations and maintenance service, with a 24-hour dedicated helpline.
Waleed al-Sayed, chief operating officer, Ooredoo, said: “Our aim is to help businesses reach their full potential with our technology, which will in turn help Qatar reach the 2030 National Vision of a knowledge based economy.”
