Nødnett now to be used at St. Olav's Hospital in Trondheim

After trialing the network, the project group recommended Nødnett’s to be used permanently by emergency teams around St. Olav's Hospital.

This means that now all alerting and notifications within the Medical center will be supported by the Nødnett digital radio communications system. This includes emergency physicians, emergency centers, AMK, air ambulance and the ambulance service. The Red Cross and other aid organizations are also given access to the new radio network to help in emergencies when needed.

The project group who has recently completed the pilot communicated that Nødnett could easily replace P-search system that notifies and alert medical teams at the St. Olav's Hospital in Trondheim.

"In the test phase, the solution has been managing 21 alarms in the three-week test period, and the feedback is almost unanimously positive. That is why the project group recommends using Nødnett permanently for alerting emergency teams”, said project manager Frode Thomassen

Nødnett was installed at St. Olav's Hospital last summer and since then the security department of the hospital used the system for their radio communications as the signals from Nødnett radios have reached every corner of the hospital.

One of the reasons why the test was successful, is that the display on a Nødnett radio accommodates much more text (120 characters) than the current pagers. Another reason it that the digital network can not be eavesdropped.

Previously, when using the P-search, all recipients had to call back to AMK to confirm that they has received notification and operators in AMK must then tell everyone what the alarm is about. "By using Nødnett, recipients now simply need to press a button to confirm that they have received the message, and it is possible for operators to send updates to the recipients of the alarm”, says Thomassen. “Nødnett radios will now replace both P-search and guard mobile, but in the everyday situation IP phones remains the primary tool for communication."

TC Connect has delivered the solution for indoor coverage as well as the the Airbus Defence and Space TH1n TETRA radios.

On Wednesday 20 May at 10:00 hrs the new radio network was officially adopted by AMK-center at St. Olav as well as the rest of the health services in Oslo.
