Implementing TETRA for Tyne and Wear Metro
Kapsch CarrierCom is currently implementing a digital radio network based on the TETRA standard for Nexus, the Newcastle based strategic public transport body in North East England. The company owns and manages the Tyne and Wear Metro – Britain’s most highly frequented public transport system outside of London. About 37 million passengers use the Metro system annually and a new digital radio system will be installed on a fleet of 90 trains, replacing the existing analog system. The new network will contribute to safe and smooth operation and will establish the basis for Nexus to develop and expand its service offerings.
