Tetrapol Network in Brazil Inaugurated

EADS Defence & Security announced the inauguration of the Tetrapol IP network to secure federal police operations in the state of Ceara, Fortaleza, Brazil. The network covers the metropolitan area of Fortaleza and the main cities of Ceara state.

The Tetrapol secure encrypted digital network supports voice and data communications and is part of the Integrapol National Brazilian Federal Police (DPF) network within the Pró-Amazônia/Proamotec program. This program is the result of an agreement concluded in Brasília in 1997 by the French and Brazilian governments on the occasion of an intergovernmental cooperation program (bilateral agreement).

The integration of all DPF units to the Brazilian states’ public-safety forces further improves their operational efficiency and their services to the Brazilian citizens and is the cornerstone of the integrated communications model for the country’s large upcoming events — FIFA World Cup 2014 and Olympics 2016.

The complete Integrapol network is composed of nine regional networks based on Tetrapol IP with 27 tactical management sites, 100 fixed base stations and 220 independent digital repeaters to provide service for about 9,000 terminals.

The system enables GPS-based automatic vehicle and person location, and users can securely access databases while on the move. “With this new modern digital highly encrypted communication system in place, DPF wants to secure all the communications among its officers during the critical operations,” said Dr. Fabiano Mendes Fernandes. “Before that, we were subject to eavesdropping from anybody. Now, it will be practically impossible to have our sensitive information going out of our control, and we have significantly improved the overall security of all our operations in the terrain.”
