Yesterday, the Federal Agency for Digital Radio of Emergency service (BDBOS) has taken the 4,000th base station of the digital radio network in the Upper Franconian Wallersberg, district of Lichtenfels in operation.
This now means that currently around 94 percent of Germany is now covered with a TETRA network supporting the police, fire departments, rescue services disaster relief and civil protection authorities in their day to day critical communications. A total of 4,500 base stations are planned nationwide.
"The introduction of BOS digital radio has now entered the last phase. Even today, it provides nationwide an indispensable contribution to the safety of our citizens. With this modern network we are now able to help faster, more reliable and threfore more effective in case of emergency " said Interior Secretary of the state of Bavaria, Gerhard Eck.
There are currently 502.000 firefighters in action who currently are registered onto the network. They now take advantage of the many benefits of digital radio BOS. These factors, in addition to encryption and nationwide communication also means that now all foces can communicate in a secure network with eachother. This allows for rapid and effective response in case of emergency and facilitates particularly in major incidents, the coordination of the different forces.
