Shanghai Aviation Hub Signs first Service Contract in China for TETRA Communications Solutions
Motorola Solutions enables secure flight operations for Shanghai, one of the world’s top 10 aviation hubs in 2016, with a system upgrade and software maintenance service contract for a major TETRA communications solution.
Shanghai, a major centre for trade and business as well as one of the most populous cities in the world, is served by two airports that surpassed the 100 million passenger mark in combined passenger traffic last year.
Shanghai aviation hub is a pioneer in the deployment of many advanced solutions for critical communications in China - from its first analogue system in 1994, an upgrade to a digital solution in 2006 and now, a holistic service maintenance contact running for seven years.
Today, the aviation hub operates an end-to-end integrated TETRA communications system comprising nearly 10,000 digital two-way radios, repeaters, as well as a DIMETRATM IP digital solution to increase coverage without disrupting radio users.
“Running successful airport operations involves managing a series of complex and inter-linked workflows, from front-end counter ticketing, controlling passenger traffic and baggage services to the back-end coordination of aircraft. Highly advanced and dependable communications is required to connect all of these intricate parts together for seamless coordination,” says WenJie Shao, General Manager, Shanghai Hong Pu Civil Airport Communication Co., Ltd.
“The challenge to maintain performance and deliver uninterrupted daily operations becomes greater during large-scale events with a high volume of passenger and air traffic,” he continues.
In the past 10 years, Motorola Solutions’ highly reliable TETRA communications solutions have enabled the Shanghai aviation hub to successfully manage multiple world-class events held in the city, including Special Olympics in 2007 and Shanghai World Expo in 2010.
“Today, our customers face growing pressures on operating costs with no compromise on delivering the highest levels of safety, productivity and efficiency. In airline operations, it is especially crucial to have communications solutions running at peak performance. By offering life-cycle management services, we are helping companies to benefit from fully refreshed system infrastructure and the most up-to-date hardware and software,” says Michael Jiang, China President and Country Manager, Motorola Solutions, Motorola Solutions China.
Regular hardware and software maintenance prolongs the life of Motorola Solutions’ communications products and solutions, and ensures the continuity of critical communications for secure and reliable operations.
