TCCA Attends Conference for the Evolution of Public Safety Networks in South Korea
The TCCA’s Critical Communications Broadband Group (CCBG), represented by chair Tero Pesonen recently attended the highly informative International Conference for the evolution of Public Safety Networks, hosted in South Korea by SaFeNet and UNISDR.
Already for some time now, South Korea is deep in preparations to provide public safety broadband capability for the Winter Olympic sites in PyeongChang, with plans to extend the service countrywide for all Public Safety as well as for railways and maritime communications. In other words, if there is a country already deeply involved in establishing a large dedicated Public safety broadband network, it is South Korea.
At the conference and in addition to the update on the Korean Public Safety LTE project, project progress updates came from Europe, represented by BDBOS Germany, the Dutch police, VIRVE from Finland, and PSC-E; from FirstNet, USA and MRC from Japan.
Besides project updates, the global perspective, and an overview of the Sendai Framework, that focuses on the substantial reduction of disaster risk and losses in lives, livelihoods and health and in the economic, physical, social, cultural and environmental assets of persons, businesses, communities and countries, was given by UNISDR.
Through Social Media the TCCA stated that the event was extremely valuable. According to the TCCA, the value lies in co-operation, working together, and having a common voice in 3GPP standardisation that will result in the exchange of best practices and the development of global markets for common interoperable solutions to the benefit of all.
