Rohde & Schwarz PMR division now officially part of the Hytera family
Division will now be known as Hytera Mobilfunk, while its Bad Münder location is expanded to become the European subsidiary of Hytera. The company has also opened a new office in the UK and won a contract with retailer River Island.
Hytera Communication’s acquisition of Rohde & Schwarz Professional Mobile Radio GmbH became official in March 2012. The Rohde & Schwarz division will now be known as Hytera Mobilfunk GmbH.
The Rohde & Schwarz office location in Bad Münder is being expanded to become the European headquarters of the Hytera corporate group. In Europe, Hytera Mobilfunk will be responsible for sales and marketing as well as for the maintenance and repair of the entire Hytera product range.
Hytera Mobilfunk will develop its established TETRA radio system ACCESSNET®-T IP further at the Bad Münder location. As a competence centre for future TETRA and LTE-based broadband solutions, the company will also integrate its entire experience in the development of customized state-of-the-art PMR systems into the Hytera corporate group.
Hytera Mobilfunk is broadening its product range with the addition of Hytera DMR systems, as well as digital and analogous terminals. n addition to the ACCESSNET®-T IP TETRA radio system, the company is offering conventional DMR systems (DMR Tier II) and DMR trunked radio solutions (DMR Tier III) from now on. The product portfolio is also being supplemented by digital and analogous hand-held and vehicle radio sets made by Hytera.
‘We consider Hytera the optimum new owner due to its strong position in the Chinese and Asian markets, and also due to the complementing product portfolio,’ said Dr. Georg Haubs, CEO of Hytera Mobilfunk.
The announcement follows Hytera’s move into a larger UK office in Slough, which was opened in April 2012 by HRH The Duke of York. The move follows increased activity in the UK, including a recent contract to upgrade radio communications at retailer River Island Clothing Company’s 466,558 sq ft distribution centre at Magna Park Milton Keynes.
The main requirement for the communications for the distribution centre was to provide clear and reliable audio communication within the two main units in over four floors. Two user groups (security and operations) required simultaneous communication whilst sharing one single channel/frequency.
The distribution centre is split between two units and located on a 23 acre site, but its analogue radio system had blind spots and two the different user groups using the same frequency often caused interference, confusion and lack of efficiency of communication.
Hytera’s solution was to install a DMR MD785 base radio in the control room with the security and operations teams using Hytera PD785 colour display/keypad radios in ‘pseudo trunking’ mode. This means the two teams are now able to communicate simultaneously, without interfering with each other's communication or activity and without the need for an additional frequency license.
Another benefit of this ‘pseudo trunking’ feature meant that the control room base radio monitors both channels without changing channel, therefore creating more fluid and comprehensive communication and less margin for error or missed communication.
