Hytera to Sponsor XX International Canoe World Championships with DMR Technology
Hytera, this week, announced an agreement with the International Canoe Federation and UK British Canoeing Sailing Committee to sponsor the XX International Canoe World Championships.
The event will be hosted in the UK at the Welsh National Sailing Academy in Pwllheli between August 19th and 25th 2017 and celebrates a battle of skill, combined with the fastest boat designs and technology available between competitors drawn from all over the world, based on a challenge first made in 1886 between British and American sailors.
The International Canoe class has evolved over a period of some 120 years using refined hull shapes based on modern computer aided design, utilising carbon fibre construction to give the lightest and strongest composition available, with speed as the ultimate goal. Each nationality have their own designs making the competition an interesting mix between skill of the sailors in varying sea and wind conditions matched with the technology of the boats.
All of this nautical expertise and competitive national pride is set against the rugged backdrop of Snowdonia National Park. Sailors will compete amongst the stunning scenery of the wild and wide open sea at the south bay of the Lyn Penninsular in North Wales, UK.
The event will attract competitors from all over the world, in particular the UK, USA, Australia, Germany, Ukraine, Norway and Sweden. Mikey Radziejowski (USA) is the current world champion following his win in San Francisco in 2014.
A team from the USA including multiple world champion Chris Mass with his leading US boat design will be back to retain the title. The British team with a number of new boats and innovations will be the strongest for years and will be determined to win back the trophy which has been in American hands since 2005.
Hytera professional two-way radios will be used throughout the event for the operational management, security and safety of the week long spectacle. A mixed fleet of Hytera PD685, PD785, PD985 and X1p DMR portables will be utilised across the venue in VHF band to co-ordinate competitors and spectators, collaborating between land and sea. The operations team will be using a GPS dispatcher to locate event staff and effectively manage the sailing programme.
Commenting on the event, Hytera Marketing Manager Rob Green stated “the groundbreaking design seen in the latest carbon fibre boats and the professional skill of the sailors fits well with our Hytera ethos. The quality and craftsmanship in our two-way radio solutions, coupled with innovative design features such as the PD985’s IP68 waterproof rating and single frequency repeater mode, or the integral Bluetooth and GPS ManDown in the ultra-thin X1p ensures our rugged devices keep up with the challenging course.” “We wish all the competitors the very best of luck and look forward to supporting the organising committee with crystal clear Hytera communications to help deliver a fantastic week of sailing.”
Phil Robin, chairman of the International Canoe Federation Sailing Committee welcomed Hytera as the new headline sponsor, commenting, “It’s extremely exciting to have such a progressive brand supporting our sport. The International Canoe class is steeped with heritage and has a long history of innovation. On behalf of the International Canoe Federation and UK British Canoeing Sailing Committee, I would like to thank Hytera for their support and look forward to another exciting and hotly contested World Championships.”
