US navy department picks FirstNet public safety communications platform

The US Department of the Navy plans to adopt the FirstNet public safety communications platform to support its mission. Under a recent policy directive from the Secretary of the Navy, the Commander Navy Installations Command (CNIC) and Commander, Marine Corps Installations Command (COMMCICOM) for the USMC, will be responsible for the development of associated functional, technical and budgetary requirements, policies, procedures, and deployment strategies related to FirstNet integration and its implementation on Navy and Marine (USMC) installations nationwide.

They will also identify appropriate Navy and USMC public safety first response entities eligible for FirstNet and assess the FirstNet communications platform for their future public safety communications needs. AT&T will provide assistance to the Department of the Navy to help it assess FirstNet for its mission needs.
