AT&T will offer long-term evolution network coverage for a Transportation Department pilot program that aims to test unmanned aerial systems as part of the U.S. government’s push to integrate drones into the national airspace, Fierce Wireless reported Friday. The company will deploy its Flying Cell on Wings technology to support LTE cellular coverage in remote areas during the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration Pilot Program in collaboration with the city of San Diego and commonwealth of Virginia. DOT chose 10 state, local and tribunal governments to work on the UAS Integration Pilot Program with the Federal Aviation Administration.

The City of San Diego will also work Qualcomm, Uber, Intel, General Electric and AirMap under the initiative.
