Motorola Solutions cites LMR optimism, expected extension of Airwave contract for at least five years
Motorola Solutions officials believe the company’s Airwave contract to supply TETRA services to first responders in the United Kingdom (UK) will be extended at least five more years, Motorola Solutions CEO Greg Brown said yesterday during a conference calls to detail first-quarter earnings. During the past two months, Motorola Solutions’ discussions with the Home Office have been “ongoing, active and productive,” Brown said during the conference call, which was webcast.
The Home Office’s ESMCP Program, which is working to replace the Airwave TETRA network with the Emergency Services Network (ESN) – which will use EE’s commercial mobile network in combination with a dedicated core for public safety use and additional sites that are being built under the Home Office’s Extended Area Services (EAS) project – has been hit by multiple delays since the initial contracts were signed with EE, Motorola Solutions and KBR in 2015.
