Text Anywhere: Skylo Launches Native SMS over Satellite
Skylo Technologies, the pioneer in non-terrestrial network (NTN) communications, has launched carrier-native SMS texting capabilities on its live satellite network. This new feature will be available to users globally, setting the stage for the planned rollout of two-way voice calls and images on Skylo's network in the near future. With this launch, Skylo is pleased to invite the world's top-tier mobile carriers to take advantage of its NTN service offering across consumer, automotive, and IoT.
Skylo's direct-to-smartphone service now empowers device users with the ability to send and receive text messages irrespective of terrestrial network availability. Leveraging a network of satellites and licensed mobile satellite spectrum, Skylo's SMS functionality serves as a seamless extension of the terrestrial wireless carriers that we partner with. As carriers integrate their networks with Skylo's, users will benefit from the simplicity and familiarity of texting without having to change their behavior as certified devices automatically toggle between cellular and satellite.
"The introduction of native SMS on our network will help carriers and consumers enjoy a frictionless experience between cellular and satellite," said Parth Trivedi, CEO and Co-Founder of Skylo. "Too often we hear from users that they have dead spots on their own driveway, not just when they go to remote places, and we're permanently solving this without the need for carrier spectrum or a separate app for messaging over satellite. Additionally, we've successfully tested voice over NB-NTN as well, and we're soon going to offer this experience to our users."
The SMS service is available on certified smartphones and wearables through Skylo's partners, including carriers and managed network operators, and integrates seamlessly into existing plans, maintaining the promise of a single bill for all services. This integration is a testament to Skylo's dedication to user convenience and its strategic partnerships that enhance the overall communication ecosystem.
