The Directorate for Emergency Communication (DNK) and the four power companies made efforts to increase the reserve power of individual base stations.

Nødnett is a robust network and built to operate in difficult situations. however the network can not function without the support of power companies. They are central emergency actors, responsible for critical infrastructure.

From 1 October, Norwegian power companies as Helgelandskraft, TrønderEnergi, NTE Nett AS and Nordland Net use radiocommuncations from Nødnett.

"The good cooperation we have had with these four power companies makes Nødnett more robust for all users in this area. It also leads to increased readiness and helps the community get more bang for the investment made in the Emergency Network, a win-win situation", says Nina Myren, Dept. Director Directorate for Emergency Communication (DNK).

Nødnett is a robust network, with a minimum of eight hours of backup power for all base stations. In addition, 15% of the base stations do have 48 hours of standby power. Through Emergency Regulations within the power industry, there are now particularly strict requirements for backup power. In cooperation, the Directorate for Emergency Communication (DNK) and the four power companies there are now efforts made to increase the reserve power of individual base stations

With Nødnett the four power companies now interact with the emergency services and other emergency stakeholders both locally and regionally.

The new radio network enables Nødnett to work more efficiently during a power outage, so that customers have to wait less longer until power has been restored. It is also important for the safety of employees of Nødnett. These people are out in all weather conditions and work in risky areas. It gives Nødnett additional security to know that they can obtain assistance should there be a need. "It will also be an important means of communication for us, especially in daily operations", said grid manager of Helgelandskraft, Frode Valla.
