Implementation New C2000 TETRA Network Delayed
One of the early conclusions of the new test authority is that the migration of the system to the originally target date of March 2017 seems unrealistic.
The implementation of the renewal of the C2000 TETRA network in the Netherlands continues steadily. In a letter of the Dutch Minister for Security and Justice earlier this year, the minister indicated that the new C2000 system will be delivered by mid 2017.
However, as recently a new independent C2000 test authority was appointed, that proactively and critically will test whether the implementation and completion of the agreement as stipulated in the agreements with the suppliers, the Minister now says that the earlier set timelines can not be met
Unrealistic timelines
One of the early conclusions of the new test authority is that the migration of the system to the originally target date of March 2017 seems unrealistic, as there is simply not enough space for a thorough and careful review precess.
The test authority also concludes that, as due to the huge diversity of the systems to be used in the C2000 control rooms, the earlier set timelines need to be revised.
Additional frequencies
To provide additional call capacity for events and large-scale actions, the new C2000 will use additional frequencies. An important precondition for the use of the new network is that the user organizations will have appropriate and properly managed TETRA radios that will work on these new frequencies.
C2000 end users have indicated that in some cases, they use devices that can not be used with these new frequencies. Therefore these radios need to be replaced. The result of this is, that replacing these radios will also take extra time.
